The Philips Norelco Arcitec 1090 Men’s Shaving System comes with the Flex and Pivot Technology where its three independently flexing heads are connected by a ball joint system making them swivel 360 degrees for a full range of motion. This will ensure optimum skin contact in curved areas and allows the Arcitec 1090 to adjust to the contours of your face to catch even the most problematic hairs on the neck and even the hard to shave places for a perfectly close shave.
The Philips Norelco Arcitec 1090 triple track shaving heads provide the shaver with up to 50% more shaving surface for a faster, smoother and closer shave because the shaver has more blades than single-track shaving heads for higher chances to catch and cut hair on every stroke to avoid the user to go over the same area to get a really close shave.
The Superior Lift and Cut Technology that comes with the shaver features dual stainless steel blade system that gently lifts hair to cut it comfortably below skin level for an ultra close shave.
The stainless steel shaving heads meanwhile are made very thin in order for them to lie closer against the skin to reach every hair. The ultra-thin heads come with slot to catch longer hairs and holes to shave short stubble.
As for the trimming of your sideburn, goatee and moustache, the shaver has an advanced tube trimmer that extends out from the body and can be slide back into the shaver. The patented precision tube trimming technology cut off hairs closer to the skin. The tube is designed in such a way that the outer tube has slots to catch hairs and the inner tube oscillates to cut hairs.
With the Arcitec 1090 “central drive” technology, it is possible for Philips Norelco to design an ultra slim ergonomic body that fits comfortably in your hand and effortless to use. All the rotary blades are connected to the shaving motor using only one spindle (axle) for a more comfortable grip.
The Philips Norelco Arcitec 1090 Shaver comes with premium materials where the body is designed with fine brushed stainless steel, with a mirror coating of dark warm silver and carbon fiber side panels. The shaver also has a multi-purpose digital display readout of shaving time remaining, battery capacity indicator and full charge indicator.
The shaver can be recharged via the Power Pod travel case (ideal for travel) that plugs into the wall or via its sleek stand. To wash the shaver, simply rinse under running water for few seconds.
The shaver can be fully charged in just 1-hour for up to 65 minutes of shave time or 21 days of cordless shaving and it has 3-Minute Quick Charge feature if you are in a hurry. The shaver comes standard with electronic On/Off switch, hair collection chamber, protective razor cap, worldwide voltage conversion, cleaning brush and 60-Day money back guarantee and a full two-year warranty.
Below are the pros and cons of the Philips Norelco Arcitec 1090 Men’s Shaving System as experienced by its users.
Pros
- The shaver is very effective at giving a clean, close shave on your face.
- The new head arrangement pivots FAR more than any prior model and it really hugs the contours of your face and neck.
- The shaver is relatively quiet.
- The shaver shaves VERY fast and very close with no irritation.
- The shaver is extremely easy to clean. Each cutter/comb assembly hinges up, but remains attached to the head making it very easy to rinse out without worrying about the cutters and combs separating from one another.
- The shaver can be charged in its stand or the travel case.
- The protective head guard will not come off until you physically remove it.
- The shaver is comfortable.
- Low maintenance.
- It is easy to clean the shaver. No additional cleaning supplies required because one can use the small brush provided, rinse under hot water, and/or submerge the head in hot water with a bit of soap and turn the razor on.
- The shaver comes with a neat LED display that shows how many minutes of shaving time there is remaining.
The shaver can be fully charged in one hour. - The shaver seems to be well constructed.
- The shaver is light and feels good in the hand.
- The shave is smoother compared to one of the user’s previous Norelco 8894XL.
- Cleaning the razor is a breeze, just rinse it out under a little hot water.
- The case, while secure, does not hold accessories such as charger, brush and head cover.
- The heads not only accommodate your face, but have an even larger angle for doing so and the shaving area is also larger.
- The shaver has long battery life where one of the user can get numerous shaves out of one charge.
- The shaver shaves stubble (and only stubble) close.
- The shaver can be returned to Norelco within 60 days for a full refund.
- The shaver has a modern, sleek looking design, almost art-deco like, and looks pretty nice when it sits up there on the bathroom counter.
Cons
- The trimmer is worse than useless because it is quite small and mounted at an odd place in relation to the cutting head making it especially awkward to use. With this new 1090, the user has to use a separate trimmer all the time. The user can’t use it safely to keep the goatee whisker length in check without risking over cutting it. The trimmer blades barely protrude from the body of the shaver which makes it nearly impossible to get the trimmer on a lone stray whisker.
- Only cordless use (although the battery is supposed to last long) because for the price, one of the user would have preferred the ability to keep on using the razor once the battery dies in a few years.
- Limited range of motion compared to an older Norelco which “hugged” one of the user jaw line and chin much better. Norelco boasts about “optimum skin contact in curved areas” but when shaving often there’s not enough contact in some areas.
- The shaver cannot be used for wet shaving.
- The price is quite expensive.
- A user tried it for a couple of weeks and found it delivers a really harsh uncomfortable shave with lots of razor burn which he never got from other Norelco. He thinks one reason for the harsh shave is that it doesn’t have the floating heads anymore that easily give to the contours of your face.
- The shaving process takes an inordinately long period of time with the shaver, as areas have to be shaved over – and over – and over again before the closeness of the shave is anywhere near acceptable.
The LED display is inaccurate. - The shaver does not handle anything over stubble well for long because it has very shallow reservoirs for the hair to collect in and when you shave anything longer than stubble it gets gunked up and doesn’t perform as well.
- The shaver will spray hair everywhere if you tilt it off your face while running.
- The shaver needs to be cleaned after each use.
- The on-off button is sensitive and is placed on the middle of the front of the shaver. The location of the button is generally where the user place his thumb while shaving and he accidentally turned the razor off while in the middle of shaving.

the shaver is a water proof… so i dont know you u made the comment under Cons about “The shaver cannot be used for wet shaving.”
One of the user commented that the shaver can’t be used for wet shaving and bear in mind that even though if a shaver is water proof, it doesn’t necessary means that it can be used for wet shaving.
